Shotgun The shotgun is a medium-range weapon that provides great utility for engaging multiple enemies.

It has many abilities that reduce damage. Damage reduction is even more valuable (especially for Tank or solo characters) than healing. I.e., there is no need to heal if you do not receive the damage in the first place. Depending on the values involved, damage reduction can even be more valuable than adding defence.

In The Secret World, Shotgun is the primary if not only source of the Purge effect, which removes beneficial effects from enemies. Purge Abilities include Cleanup, Collateral Damage, Crap Shoot, Smart Bomb and Sure Shot. In Secret World Legends, gadgets that could perform Purge were made available to all players.

It can inflict the States of Weakened and Hindered; the second and third most effective, the best being Impaired. If Pistol or Shotgun is paired with either: Blade or Blood Magic or Fist, all four common States can be inflicted, and therefore Exploited.

Many Shotgun abilities are Exploiters that take an advantage from States, usually the Hindered state.

Penetration abilities have a chance of inflicting extra damage, in a similar way to Critical hit attacks, but instead bypass a portion of the enemy's defence. Many Penetration abilities belong to Shotgun, and a smaller number in Blood Magic.

Similar to Pistol's Drone abilities, Shotgun's Mine and Turret abilities place a temporary ally on the field. Unlike Drones, Turrets and Mines are incapable of movement and may have more restricted targeting, but tend to do more damage.

Bombardment[]

Bombardment - Active Ranged Ability (Elite) - A shotgun attack that places a turret at the targeted point that will deal a large amount of damage to a random target and enemies near that target.

  1. CQC - Your Shotgun abilities deal 1 physical damage based on your proximity to the target.

  1. Reinforcement - When deploying any Shotgun Turret or Mine ability, your defensive target takes 2.7% less damage from all sources for 5 seconds.
